Ysgol Gynradd St John Lloyd RC Primary School

To be the best we can be, living to learn, learning to live with God at our side.

Welcome

YEAR 1/2 - St Rhian

Croeso i  Flwyddyn 1/2!

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term! We cannot wait to continue our learning journey together.

This year your teachers will be Mrs Protheroe and Mrs Wiersma-Jones.

We also have Mr Hart and Mrs Gough supporting us too.

This half term we will be focusing on the topic 'Wonderful Woodland!'.smiley

We will be implementing the four purposes of the new curriculum for Wales to inform our teaching.

  • This will allow all children to be:
  • ambitious, capable learners - through learning to read and write simple sentences all about British wildlife!
  • enterprising, creative contributors - such as exploring the stories about Percy the Park Keeper!

This term we will be playing and exploring in the forest! Please make sure your child comes to school with a rain coat and sensible footwear - trainers or school shoes - every day.

  • ethical, informed citizens - taking part in a variety of outdoor learning activities, especially lots of planting and growing this spring!
  • healthy, confident individuals - learning about staying safe in school playing and learning inside and outside.

  • In Maths this term we will be looking at telling the time on an analogue clock face. We will be weighing and measuring in our role play area, Percy the Park Keeper's cottage.

  • Our RE topic for this term is Desserts to the Garden. We will be learing about Jesus' journey through Holy Week, and how we strive to be more like Jesus during Lent.

Important Information

As the weather improves and indeed during the colder months we will be playing and learning outside every day. Please ensure your child comes to school with a warm coat and appropriate footwear.

This year we will be using Seesaw for regular communication as well as homework.

Each week you will see a phonic and spelling homework uploaded for your child. This will be based on what they will be learning in class that week.

Each week a maths homework will also be uploaded. This will also be based on what your child will be learning with their maths teacher that week.

Tuesdays  are PE day so please can each pupil have a labelled PE bag with appropriate kit in.

Children will also be given a bug club account which is our online reading scheme. New books for you to share with your child will be available each week.

We are looking at phase 3 tricky words this half term .These are

said like they are come here play  . There are lots of games and songs on you tube to support this learning.

0ne of our school aims is to develop a strong reading culture at SJL. Each Monday, one member of the class will be able to take home our class reading mascot: Percy penguin as a 'Star of the Week' reward.

A journal will be given to write/ stick in drawings or photos of their weekend together as well as a story time book for bedtime.

Many thanks for your co-operation and support as always.

THE COLOR MONSTER (ANIMATED) #readaloud for children | #storytime | #animatedstories #kindergarten

One day, the Color Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad, and scared, all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through color.
