To be the best we can be, living to learn, learning to live with God at our side.

Information on our class structure and curriculum in KS2 at SJL

In line with our prospectus, classes in KS2 are mixed ability with some year groups being split year groups. In the case where TEACHING classes are based on ability the pupils parent/ guardian will be notified individually and the reasons explained for the grouping.

In Maths pupils are set as this allows the teaching to maximise the development of pupils skills and understanding. Homework is provided through MY MATHS. Please see the attached link for explanation of  how to maximise homework in addition to set weekly HW by class

In literacy classes pupils are mixed ability with spelling groups based on pupils spelling ages and their consistent understanding of spelling rules. The school uses Nelson Spelling. The book colour reflects the expected spelling patterns for that year group;

RED =Y1-2, YELLOW = Y2-3, PURPLE= Y3-4, BLUE= Y4, GREEN = Y5, ORANGE =Y6

Remember SJL has an open door policy and communication between the school and parents is vital to us developing your child's education. If you would like to discuss any issues with the class teacher or pop in for a chat please book a time slot with the secretary.

Welcome back to a brand new year! You will continue to work with Mrs Brazil, Mr Hennessy and Mrs Wiersma-Jones. We will also be building on the skills of our 4 different areas of learning:-

Ambitious Capable Learners

Enterprising & Creative Contributors

Ethically Informed Citizens

Healthy Confident Individuals

Our exciting new topic for this term is Mythical Monsters. We will be creating some fantastic pieces of art work for display based around mythical creatures. We will also be given the opportunity to create our own mythical beast to enter our competition towards the end of term.

Our new topic also has a science element that will require us to investigate the life cycles, habitats, body parts and functions of different animals and minibeasts. We will be collecting and presenting a range of scientific and mathematical data.

Our novel this term within literacy is 'The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe' by C.S Lewis. We will be exploring the wonderful world of Narnia and meeting the all of the different mythical characters. This will be the stimulus for our own creative writing and will help us to develop our imaginations.

Our maths this term will be exploring 5 digit numbers, continuing to develop our addition and subtraction skills,  we will be consolidating our 3, 4 and 6 times tables, while learning our 7, 8 and 9's. Don’t forget to keep checking your “Mymaths” page for extra help and to complete all tasks set.

Our RE topic this term is 'Mission'.  We will be exploring our diocese led by bishops who continue the work of the twelve apostles who continued the work and mission of Jesus.

For ICT we will be focusing on programming using Scratch block coding. We will also be using Edison Robots to create a "Superbug" that will be entered into a knock out tournament!!

Our virtues this term are asking us to become “curious” and “active”. These virtues will help us to grow by leading us to be curious about the world around us as well as the people around us, and to take more responsibility for our own learning. We will provide opportunities for you to be active in the life of the school, the Church, and the wider community.

We will continue to develop our Welsh language in preparation for high school. We will also be working hard in our PE lessons to develop our gymnastic skills, particularly balancing and travelling on and off different apparatus.

Don’t forget to keep checking your “BUG CLUB” and “MYMATHS” pages for homework, spellings will be uploaded to google classrooms each week.
