Year 6 - L Brazil
Welcome back to the start of your final year here at St John Lloyd Primary
“The Class of 2025/2026”
This term, our exciting new topic is entitled "Mythical Monsters." We will be exploring the origins and features of imaginary creatures from various cultures around the world. As this project is a science-based study, it will help us to understand the life cycles and habitats, body parts and functions of different animals in the locality and beyond. We'll also delve into the biology of animals that might have inspired tales of dragons, unicorns, and sea monsters, fostering a deeper understanding of zoology and mythology. We will be collecting and presenting scientific and mathematical data and each of you will be invited to enter our beast creating competition to invent your very own mythical being.
During our literacy sessions, we will be reading C.S. Lewis's classic novel, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We will be discussing central themes like bravery, friendship, and the battle between good and evil, understanding the traits and motivations of key characters such as Lucy, Edmund, and Aslan and of course continuing to develop our love of reading. Using the book as a stimulus, we will also be creating artwork, writing alternative endings and creating our own imaginative stories using “Narnia” as our inspiration.
.
Our maths this term will be exploring (very) large numbers, using common factors to simplify fractions, refelcting and translating shapes, as well as converting units of measure and of course practicing our 4 orders of operation. Don’t forget to keep checking your “Mymaths” page for extra help and to complete all tasks set.
Our RE topic is called “Creation and Covenant”. We will be learning all about the story of Moses and the burning bush and the covenant that God made with his people through the Ten Commandments.
,
This term, our focus is on nurturing the virtues of eloquence and truthfulness. Our aim is to encourage everyone to express themselves clearly and honestly in their self-perception, interactions with others, and understanding of the world around them, also embedding our Catholic Social teachings into our everyday lives.
In addition to this, we will continue to enhance our Welsh language and ICT skills. We will make use of Google Classroom along with various apps and resources to support our learning journey.
Music remains a key part of our curriculum, and we will continue to enjoy learning to play the ukulele. We are also looking forward to participating in a variety of hands-on experiences offered by school trips and visitors to our classroom. We will also be continuing to enjoy our edible garden activities , reading in our school library and preparing ourselves for the next stage of our learning journey through regular visits to our high school.
Thank you for your continued support and I hope that this year continues to allow us all to become the best that we can be!
