Year 3/4 - N Lewis / K Johnson

Welcome to Year 3/4!

Welcome to Year 3/4 Winifred!

We are so excited for the school year ahead. We have lots of exciting books to read, topics to research and new skills to learn.

In this first half term of Autumn, our topic is Into the Woods. We will be finding out what plants and animal live in the woodland habitat and why. Our Science lessons will help learn about food chains and how animals are adapted to this habitat.

For those of you who love art, we will be looking at the work of a famous artist called Andy Goldsworthy and creating our own artwork using natural material found in the woodland.

For the Sports enthusiasts, our PE lessons will be on Fridays. Everyone needs to remember their P.E. kit, including their white t-shirts on this day as it is an important part of the curriculum.

To keep up to date with what we are doing in Maths, please have a look at the Maths newsletters posted on the class page belonging to your Maths teacher. Also, don’t forget to complete your My Maths homework online. This is set each Wednesday and you have a week to complete it.

Our first novel is called ‘Buggy Belly, Froggy Rescue’ By Paul Morton. The story is set in a woodland where the main character, Bug Belly, has to go on a dangerous adventure to rescue the froglets! Will he succeed? This book will help us to develop our descriptive writing skills.

Don’t forget to read and complete the activities for 1 book each week on Bug Club. Reading is so important in helping us learn and develop other skills. A new list of spelling will be posted on our class page each Friday. Please remember to practice these words each day at home ready for your spelling test the following Friday.

‘Creation and Covenant’ is our first R.E. topic. We will be learning that God created the world for everyone and that He asks us to take care of it. This will help us to carry out our Catholic Social teaching principle of the ‘Common Good’ as looking after the world is for the good of all.  Our virtues are faith-filled and hopeful, where we growing in faith as we see hop in everything around us.

Let’s start our Year 3/4 adventure!
