Year 3/4 - R Jones

Welcome back everyone and I hope you have all had a wonderful summer break and are looking forward to an exciting time in Year 3/4.

This year we will be continuing to develop the four purposes of the new curriculum for Wales:

* Ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives

* Enterprising, creative contributors ready to play a full part in life and work

* Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world

* Healthy, confident individuals ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society

Welcome back everyone! I hope you have all enjoyed a restful break and are excited for the busy and exciting term ahead. As we journey towards Christmas, we have lots of engaging learning opportunities planned across the curriculum, along with special visits, visitors, celebrations, and events for us to enjoy together.

This term, our topic is “Creative Crafters”. The children will become designers and inventors as they explore how products are made and improved to solve everyday problems. They will look at different products, investigate the materials used to make them, and learn about the steps involved in designing and creating something new. As part of the topic, the children will design and make their own products, thinking carefully about what they are for, who will use them, and how they will work. Throughout the term, they will develop their creativity, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, helping them to become confident and independent learners.

In Literacy this term, we will be exploring a range of exciting texts, including poetry, stories and advertisements. Through reading and discussing different poems, the children will learn how poets use rhyme, rhythm and descriptive language to create pictures and feelings for the reader. They will have opportunities to perform poems and write their own using a variety of creative techniques. The children will also learn about advertisements, looking at how words, pictures and slogans are used to persuade people. They will create their own adverts linked to our Creative Makers topic, developing their skills in writing for a particular purpose and audience.

Our R.E. topic this term is called “Prophecy and Promise.” We will be learning about the different parts of the Mass and their importance in Catholic worship. We will explore Isaiah’s promise of a Saviour and discover how this promise was fulfilled at Christmas through the birth of Jesus. We will also learn about Advent, the season when Christians prepare for the coming of Jesus through prayer, reflection, and acts of kindness.

This term's virtues are Eloquent and Truthful. We will learn that being eloquent means speaking thoughtfully, confidently, and kindly, using our words to encourage, explain, and help others. For example, we can be eloquent by sharing our ideas clearly in class, listening carefully to others, and using respectful language. Being truthful means being honest in our words and actions, even when it is difficult. We can show this virtue by telling the truth, admitting our mistakes, keeping promises, and making fair choices.

This term in Mathematics, we will be focusing on learning and practising our 3 and 4 times tables and related division facts. We will also be developing our skills in reading scales using kilograms (kg) and grams (g), as well as improving our confidence with addition and subtraction using the column method

Homework

Maths homework will be put online on a Wednesday and is linked to the work that the children have been doing in class. Your child has their own individual ‘MyMaths’ login password.

New Bug Club books will be issued every Wednesday and please can you read with your parents every day.

P.E

P.E. will be undertaken on Tuesday and you will need to bring your kit in a clearly labelled bag to be kept in school until half term when it will be given back to you to wash.

Note to parents: Please ensure all of your child’s jumpers, cardigans and any coats have their names in.  We will do our best to ensure they are found when lost, but it becomes difficult if the children’s names are not written inside.
