Year 1/ 2 - C Vanstone

Croeso i flwyddyn 1/2!

We are looking forward to the exciting opportunities and activities we have planned for this term. We are very lucky to have Mrs Shore supporting our learning this year!

We will be implementing the four purposes of the new curriculum for Wales to inform our teaching.

This will allow all children to be:

Ambitious, Capable Learners – through exploring what makes each of us happy through interviewing our friends and teachers.

  • Enterprising, Creative Contributors – through arranging and planning their own Tiger Who Came To Tea Party and creating their own observational drawings of happy faces.
  • Ethical, Informed Citizens - taking part in a variety of outdoor learning activities, bird watching, growing, caring for the environment and creating our own Class Charter based on the UNICEF: Children's Rights.
  • Healthy, Confident Individuals – through learning all about what is right and wrong and how this effects our feelings, exploring what foods are healthy and not healthy

Our RE topic is ‘Creation and Covenant’. We will be exploring the Bible story of Creation as we learn about God’s special promise to us all. We will explore the sacrament of Baptism and how we are all called to be members of God’s family. Our virtues focus for Autumn are: eloquent and truthful, thinking about how we can display these virtues at home and in school.

In addition to this we will develop our ICT skills with a focus this term on staying safe online. We will also continue to develop our Welsh language skills. Maths skills will be posted to this page. We will be continuing our Rights Respecting Schools Journey learning about our Rights and how they are present all around the world.

Important Information

It is very important to complete your homework as this will reinforce the learning that happens in class. This year we will be using Seesaw and Bugclub for regular communication as well as homework.

Bug Club books will be placed onto Bug Club for your child to read. The children can select a book a week and read that book at home. Remembering to answer the Bug Club questions.

Thursday is our PE day so please can each pupil have a labelled PE bag with appropriate kit in.

Please take a look at our School X account to see the wonderful work will be producing in class - @SJLCardiff or https://twitter.com/sjlcardiff?lang=en

I wish you all every success for Year 1/2, we are really looking forward to working with you all!

Let's have a great term!

 Mrs Vanstone and Mrs Shore.
