Blwyddyn Newydd Dda/Happy New Year! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas break and are feeling refreshed, ready, and excited for the term ahead. We’ve got an amazing start to the year with our first topic: “The Swinging Sixties.
”
This term, we’ll be diving into one of the most iconic decades in history. Together, we’ll explore:
- Fashion, Music & Culture – How did everyday life in the 1960s compare to today? We’ll look at trends, technology, and cultural changes.
- Famous Figures – Learn about inspiring people like Martin Luther King, The Beatles, and Neil Armstrong, and discover how they shaped the world.
- The Space Race & Moon Landings – Investigate the race to space, the historic Apollo 11 mission, and how it changed life on Earth.
- The Solar System – Building on our space theme, we’ll explore planets, moons, and the wonders of our universe.

It’s going to be a fascinating journey through history, science, and culture, and we can’t wait to get started!
In Literacy, we’ll be exploring a fantastic range of exciting and thought-provoking books. These texts will inspire us to write in a variety of genres, including persuasive arguments, letters, diaries, instructions, reports, and vivid setting descriptions. Through these activities, pupils will develop their confidence and creativity as writers, while refining key skills to make their writing clear, engaging, and effective.
This term in mathematics, we will:
- Practise multiples of 4 and strengthen multiplication and division facts for the 4 times table.
- Learn how to interpret and present data using tables and charts.

Please keep practising your times tables regularly—they’re essential for success in all areas of maths! Don’t forget to check your MyMaths page for extra support and to complete any tasks set.
This terms virtues are ‘Active and Curious’. We will understand that being active is about using our energy to love and help others, just as God teaches us. Being curious is about using our minds to learn more about the wonderful world God created.

We’ll explore the Ten Commandments and understand why they are important rules for the good of people. We will also look at the Beatitudes, where Jesus shares powerful messages about what makes a truly blessed life.

Homework
Math homework will be put online on a Tuesday and is linked to the work that the children have been doing in class. Your child has their own individual ‘MyMaths’ login password.
New Bug Club books will be issued every Tuesday and please can you read with your parents every day.
P.E
P.E. will be undertaken on Tuesday and you will need to bring your kit in a clearly labelled bag to be kept in school until half term when it will be given back to you to wash.
Note to parents: Please ensure all your child’s jumpers, cardigans and any coats have their names in. We will do our best to ensure they are found when lost, but it becomes difficult if the children’s names are not written inside.
We look forward to a fun and exciting term and not forgetting lots of hard work!!!!!
