To be the best we can be, living to learn, learning to live with God at our side.

Welcome

Year 4/5 Miss Redfearn (Miss Evans)

Information on our class structure and curriculum in KS2 at SJL
In line with our prospectus, classes in KS2 are mixed ability with some year groups being split year groups. In the case where TEACHING classes are based on ability the pupils parent/ guardian will be notified individually and the reasons explained for the grouping.

In Maths pupils are set as this allows the teaching to maximise the development of pupils skills and understanding. Homework is provided through MY MATHS. Weekly homework will also be set. Please can all children ensure it is completed and returned by Friday, of each week.

In Literacy classes pupils are mixed ability with spelling groups based on pupils spelling ages and their consistent understanding of spelling rules. The school uses Nelson Spelling. The book colour reflects the expected spelling patterns for that year group;
RED =Y1-2, YELLOW = Y2-3, PURPLE= Y3-4, BLUE= Y4, GREEN = Y5, ORANGE =Y6
Remember SJL has an open door policy and communication between the school and parents is vital to us developing your child's education. If you would like to discuss any issues with the class teacher or pop in for a chat.
It is very important to complete your homework - Bug Club, My Maths and spelling homework will be set weekly. Alongside this comprehension and research projects will be set too!

Croeso! Welcome back and happy new year to you all!

Miss Redfearn has gone off on maternity leave so Miss Evans will be taking her place, she has promised she will bring the baby in once born, and we cannot wait!

We have so many exciting opportunities and activities planned this academic year, which will add to the wonderful memories the children have already made in 2019.

Our topic this term is 'Blood, Bones and Gory Bits'.

We will be exploring the importance of exercise and its effect on the body, we will also be looking at our heart rate, before and after exercise. We are all very excited about getting started on our new topic!

In our Literacy lessons we will be looking at creating our own non-chronological reports on the human body, studying the work and life of Florence Nightingale and creating a leaflet all about healthy eating.

Homework

Monday - new spellings set

Friday - spelling test

Math's homework is set weekly by child's Math's teacher

The homework for this term is making a heart that pumps!

The children can interpret this in anyway they like, using whatever resources and materials they wish, as long as it is a heart, that pumps.
