Ysgol Gynradd St John Lloyd RC Primary School

To be the best we can be, living to learn, learning to live with God at our side.

Welcome

Year 1

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a great half term break and are looking forward to more exciting times in year 1.

Our topic this term is ‘big wide world’ and we will be inviting a parent to come into school to talk to the children and explain what it is like to live, work and go to school in Africa.  The children will be encouraged to devise relevant questions to ask our visitor to find out information and show understanding.  We will listen to and retell traditional and modern stories from Wales and Africa.  In ICT the children will find and store images from the internet of locations found in Africa and Wales and store them in their own digital portfolios.  During Art we will be creating an African landscape using the skill of paint mixing.  How exciting!

Our R.E. topic is giving, and we will be exploring how we change and grow.  The children will be able to talk about their experiences and feelings about changing and the new skills they will acquire.  We will be retelling the story of Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday and recognise that people use the opportunity of Lent to change and make a new start.

Homework

Maths homework will be given out on Fridays and will be linked to the work that you have been doing in class this week. This needs to be returned by the following Friday.

New bug club books will be issued every Monday. Please read them every day.

PE

PE is on a Thursday. Please also ensure your child is prepared each week with navy blue or black shorts and a white top in a clearly labelled kit bag.

Croeso I flwydden un! Welcome to year 1!

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and are all looking forward to some exciting times in year 1.

Our first topic this term is ‘Fairy tales’ and we will be holding a Fairy tale WOW day. A very special character will be visiting the school and reading a selection of stories to us. We will be reading a range of simple fairy stories individually and as a class and re-telling through play, talking and writing. We will be retelling the story of The Three Little Pigs using actions from Pie Corbett.

During PE we will be moving and dancing as characters from fairy tales and using music and sound to stimulate movement. We will be describing what types of movements we are making and explain how they make our bodies feel.

Our R.E. topic is special people and we will be thinking about people in our family or friends who help us. What makes them so special? How do they help us? Please bring in a photograph of someone special to you for our class display. We will also be thinking about special people in our parish family, our priest, altar servers, readers, ministers and everyone who welcome us to the parish community.
