Ysgol Gynradd St John Lloyd RC Primary School

To be the best we can be, living to learn, learning to live with God at our side.

Welcome

Year 1

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a great Christmas break and are looking forward to more exciting times in year 1.

Our topic this term is Superheroes! We have already had a special visit from Spiderman and we are looking forward to a visit from a real life superhero from the local community.  The children have already been 'super' busy solving problems in our superhero headquarters role-play area. We will be exploring the characteristics of a superhero and creating superhero profiles and planning and writing our own stories about superheroes. We will be exploring superhero sounds and effects using musical instruments and developing dance and movement techniques in our P.E lessons to bring to life the movement of superheroes. How exciting!

Our R.E. topic is 'Special People' we will be looking  at how our Church is a community. We will be learning about the special roles some people have during Mass and listening to the story of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.

Homework

Maths homework will be given out on Fridays and will be linked to the work that you have been doing in class this week. This needs to be returned by the following Friday.

New bug club books will be issued every Monday. Please read them every day.

PE

PE is on a Thursday. Please also ensure your child is prepared each week with navy blue or black shorts and a white top in a clearly labelled kit bag.

Welsh Phrases to practice

Pwy wyt ti? Who are you?
Sut mae'r tywydd heddiw? How is the weather today?
Mae hi'n... It is...

Diolch! Thank you!

What colour? Pa liw?

Hwyl fawr! Good bye!

Note to parents:
Please ensure all of your child's jumpers, cardigans and any coats have their names in. We will do our best to ensure they are found when lost, but it becomes difficult if the children's names are not written inside. Diolch.

Thank you

Croeso I flwydden un!  Welcome to year 1!

Welcome back everyone!  We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are all looking forward to some exciting times in year 1.

Our first topic this term is ‘Happiness’ we will be interviewing other children and staff in the school to find out what makes them happy.  Soon we will be having fun in the local park, playing games and telling jokes.  So try and think of a joke to make us all laugh.  We will be learning that being healthy is a big factor in being happy.  We will also be learning the names of the different parts of the body and find out how to look after ourselves through exercise and healthy living.

Our R.E. topic is families and we will be looking at love and care shown in the family and that everyone belongs to the family of God.  Please bring in a family photograph for our class display.
